How Much Do Orthodontics Cost?

Published on April 17, 2026

Orthodontics can vary in price depending on your insurance, the type of treatment, the complexity of treatment, and the duration of the treatment. In Colorado, braces typically cost anywhere between $3000 to $9000. Here at Taft Hill, we have a payment plan that we promote to help you feel less stressed during the course of your treatment. Our payment plan consists of a $300 downpayment and then monthly payments of $180 to follow. We understand that the upfront cost of orthodontics can be a lot right off the bat! We are happy to support you through your orthodontic treatment journey!

In addition to the overall cost of orthodontic treatments, consultation and any additional care needs such as surgery will be separate additional costs. Below we will do a breakdown of the average price range you can expect from each type of treatment, that involves orthodontic tools, in Colorado.

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces are typically the cheapest option out of all the orthodontic tooth straightening treatments. In Colorado, traditional braces can range anywhere from $3000 to $7000. Some insurance companies will be willing to cover 50% of the costs, which would greatly bring down the out of pocket costs.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces (also known as clear braces) come in at a higher price point. This is because each bracket is specially made to conform to your tooth shape. To get this shape, there is an extra 3D scanning of your mouth that has to be done. Since ceramic braces are shaped to your teeth, there is a little more time involved in creating the brackets. Overall, ceramic braces on average move your teeth into their final positions quicker than traditional braces. Therefore, the average cost of $4000 to $8000 may be one you are willing to pay to shorten treatment time.

Invisalign

Contrary to popular belief, Invisalign can run on par or slightly more cost wise than traditional braces. This is because Invisalign clear aligners require multiple molds to be taken and 3D printed. Overall, they will require more material to make than traditional braces will. Additionally, the cost of taking and creating the 3D model of your mouth each visit will increase the overall cost compared to traditional braces. On average in Colorado, Invisalign can cost anywhere from $3500 to $8000.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are traditional braces that are placed on the inner side of your tooth rather than the outside. This process is much harder to work with than it is if braces are placed on the outside surface. Lingual braces are sometimes chosen by individuals who really want to hide the smile straightening process. This form of orthodontics is not very common due to the difficulty and many places do not offer this form of treatment. Lingual braces are quite expensive due to this as well. They can range anywhere from $7000 to $11000.

Other Orthodontic Tools

Other orthodontic tools can vary greatly in price. For example, a palette expander can cost anywhere from $1500 to $2500. This is an additional cost on top of the tooth straightening process as they are two different forms of treatment. Sometimes there are orthodontic tools that are included in the overall cost of braces, such as tooth spacers.

Conclusion

Overall, the cost of orthodontics can greatly vary depending on the type of treatment, length of treatment, and your health insurance. The best way to determine the overall cost of your treatment will be through a consultation with your orthodontist. An initial consultation will help determine the severity of your case and what steps will be best for you. At Taft Hill, we offer a complimentary consultation in addition to the payment plan offered to patients.
